How it SHOULD have been – Michael & Dean

Here’s a script for how I would have done the conversation between Michael & Dean in the Song Remains the Same.  The fact that I had to “fix” this is what’s annoyed me most this season.  This stuff should write itself!  (I think it also shows how you can have character and plot driven stories at the same time)

.

Michael

Well I’d say this conversation is long overdue.  Wouldn’t you?

Dean

Fix him…

Michael

First… we talk.  Then I fix your darling little Sammy.

Dean

What – how are you in my dad anyway?

Michael

You’re my true vessel, but not my only one.  It’s a bloodline.

Dean

A bloodline?

Michael

Stretching all the way back to Cain & Abel.  It’s in your blood, your father’s blood, your family’s blood.

Dean

Awesome.  Six degrees of Heaven bacon.  What do you want with me?

Michael

I need you to understand.

Dean

Understand what?

Michael

My pain – my heartbreak – over this.  My brother, I practically raised him and took care of him in a way most people can’t understand.  But now I have to kill him before he destroys the world.

Dean

So you have a beef with your brother.  Well get some therapy, don’t take it out on my planet!

Michael

That was my first mistake.

Dean

[beat] What?

Michael

Why do you think Lucifer was sealed, Dean?  My father told me – warned me – that I should kill Lucifer before he wiped out humanity – or worse.  But I didn’t listen; I gave him one chance after another, until it was too late.  Lilith was twisted and corrupted but even then I hesitated.

Dean

The seals…

Michael

Were my idea; a way to obey the letter of my father’s law if not the spirit.  I sealed Lucifer deep within the pit of hell, yet here we are today.

Dean

[looking sick]

Michael

I should have done what was right the first time.  I should have killed him!  But I didn’t, and now he runs loose, slaughtering billions.
[walks up and puts his hand on Dean’s shoulder]
We’ve made the same mistakes, you and I.  Learn from yours, as I have.  When you return to the future, say yes.  Now, before your brother must be killed too.  Let’s correct our poor choices.
